Cosmic Gate Continues To Dominate
Feb 22nd
Next weekend, we’ll be graced by the presence of dance floor gods here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Cosmic Gate, the German trance duo comprising of Nic Chagall and DJ Bossi (both individually respected producers) were formed over a decade ago. But despite this, they have evolved and stayed ahead of the game by adapting their sound and style over the course of dance music’s growth through their legendary list of original productions and their ability to remix tracks with razor sharp cutting edge elements. It is no wonder that almost all of their releases to date quickly find its’ paths to the front of DJ boxes.
Having already released 3 installments of their Back 2 Back mix compilation series and played at every major club and festival, there’s nothing Cosmic Gate have not accomplished to proof their impact on dance music history. Their music and performances speak ‘volumes’ of their influence and ever growing fanbase, that have earned them recognition as “one of the best things that have ever happened to music.”
Here they are for this exclusive Radio KUL Extra feature.
Cosmic Gate
How has the year kicked off for you guys so far? Any highlights to date?
The first gig we had this year on January 2nd in Puerto Rico already was a highlight again – watch our homepage for a video – with an amazing crowd and a big open air tent right near the ocean! Fortunately there are a lot of great parties going on, trance is definitely more than alive in 2010!!!
Congratulations on the IDMA nominations. How did you guys hookup with Emma Hewitt for “Not Enough Time?”
Thank you very much! We heard her on one of her older productions and right away liked her style a lot! When searching for singers for the album, we contacted her, and fortunately she was really interested in the collaboration, and after some weeks of sending music up and down, we all together finally came up with “Not Enough Time.”
The remix for JES’ “Lovesong” really defined massive support. Already one of this year’s best and there were a few weeks where it was just being played on every single radio show. Any new remixes in the works?
We are currently working on a remix for the soundtrack of the movie Avatar‘s theme track, Leona Lewis “I See You”, it’s a big honor for us to be asked to remix this great singer and for one of the most successful movies ever!
In your opinion, which part of the world is currently showing a lot of interest in dance music? Is there a favourite venue that you both really love to perform at?
Last year saw many of our gigs in US and Canada, but South America and Asia are also really picking up in dance music, and we like it as both of these continents are where we love to perform a lot.
Any chance there’ll be a Back 2 Back this year?
Good question, as we just finished the mixing for the 4th chapter of Back to Back during our stay in Brazil a few weeks ago. B2B4 will be released worldwide starting beginning of March on Black Hole Recordings, watch out for it, it consists some tracks that will be big for the next few months for sure!
In a few more weeks, you’ll be performing at the ASOT 450 celebrations. Are you guys planning anything special for this?
Like you said it’s still a few weeks to go. We will think about what to do maybe a few days before that, and prepare something special as it will be an awesome party again for sure. We‘ll see what we come up with…

How many months per year are you guys on the road? What do you guys like and dislike about touring?
Touring is always great, seeing many beautiful cities, meeting nice people, only the long traveling hours and jet lag are annoying and stressful. But a price we are more than willing to pay, to perform at the best clubs and festivals worldwide!
Which artiste currently catches your attention, and why?
There are quite a few guys making good stuff, like Ashley Wallbridge coming up with a lot of good tunes, and also Gui Boratto. Both in our eyes enrich the trance scene with their progressive touch.
Which Cosmic Gate track do you hold most dearly to you and why?
There is no track we prefer more than others actually. We see them all as our kind of “kids” and even if you are happy if one of the kids are getting better scores at school than the others, you still love them all the same… :-)
It won’t be your first time (and we hope not your last time) in Malaysia, so any message to your fans here and what can we expect from the gig!
It will be our first club gig together in Malaysia after 2 open airs, so we are looking forward to it as Zouk is a great place! We hope to see you all on March 5th for a great clubbing experience together.
Cosmic Gate performs live at Zouk, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday March 5th. For more info go to http://www.zoukclub.com.my/.
