Trance maestro Daniel Kandi has produced quality records that have won over the hearts of music lovers around the world. His music invokes emotion and euphoria and have been a constant feature on DJ livesets, compilations, and dance radio stations. With remixes for Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Gareth Emery, and Alex MORPH, and his own original tracks such as “Promised,” “Sagittarius,” “Sticks and Stones,” “Liberate,” and many more, Kandi’s music has earned his a solid reputation as a producer genius in his own right.

We are pleased to reveal that the Kandiman will be making his debut here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this weekend for The Gallery by Ministry of Sound together with local partner TranceFrom Malaysia.

Daniel Kandi

Hi Daniel! Where are you currently and what’s been a recent highlight?
Yo! I’m in Denmark, prepping for a gig in LA and a few tunes for that! Been around a lot lately. I was at Australia and USA is starting now. Asia a lot lately too .. Japan was crazy!

Congrats on all the DJ and airplay support of “Insert Generic Title.” Hardly a generic tune at all! How long did you take to make this tune?
Too long ..haha! But I’m glad it gets a lot of support. Especially the remix from me and Dennis Pedersen which has garnered a lot of response!

Please tell us all about “Azzura,” your new track with Boom Jinx that’s included on Anjunabeats Worldwide 04.
Well I met Boom Jinx for the first time in Singapore at a gig we played together. We’re good friends now and we decided to make this track together, we had a brilliant and fun time producing it.

We like that your releases are quality over quantity. When it comes to productions, how do you keep the Kandi sound a class above others?
I think it’s on par with others, but in the case of above others I’ll let you be the judge. Besides that, it’s about wanting to spend a lot of time EQing and filtering stuff so it delivers particular sound. I’m just a nerd when it comes to that :)

It’s been a while since “Sagittarius” has been out but we still love this record so much. Was this commissioned by Armin van Buuren for his Universal Religion compilation (we heard that you sent it in just in time for him to include it) or was this a track you already made which was just waiting to see the light of day?
I made it especially for that compilation. I talked to Armin personally and asked him for a few things on what he expected of the track, etc. So it was quite nice.

Daniel, you started off making 138bpm uplifting trance music. As you know trance has evolved over the last 2 years with a lot of big room influence. How has this impact your music and DJ sets?
It allows me to play more shuffled. I like everything from 128bpm to 139ish trance and progressive, so it’s good to have variety and try to keep the crowd entertained.

Your music has brought you around the globe. Which has been your favourite city to date and why?
Tokyo really surprised me! LA which I’m going to again now is really great as well. London is nice too. Melbourne and Perth are also very diverse in culture!

Malaysia eagerly awaits your debut here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for The Gallery! What can we expect from your set?
Bass, beats and melody! ;) And a few big surprises!

And lastly, any message for your fans around the world!
Stay off drugs! And enjoy life! See you a at a show soon!

International DJ and producer Richard Durand will headline Music Conference Asia 2012 this weekend here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We’re sure you know him from his In Search of Sunrise compilations, his solid discography, and his packed live shows around the globe. It’s been 2 years since our last interview with Richard, so we catch up with him for an update just before he takes center stage.

Richard Durand

Hello Richard! How are you and where are you currently answering from?
It’s Monday and I woke up an hour ago. I am in Amsterdam at the garage now getting some well-needed maintenance on my car, but I am feeling good! I had a great weekend so I am ready for the week to get started!

You are currently embarking on a very interesting and ambitious project called Richard Durand vs The World. This project has empowered so many regional producers and artistes to work together on your base tracks. What we like is how the community can participate as well. How did you conceptualize this entire project?
I thought it would be fun to change things around a bit seeing as I already released two albums. And as I know how important social media is, I wanted to use it for my new album. Of course there will be productions on the album that are my own and collaborations with some well-known producers, but I thought it would be a fun idea to get some new and enthusiastic producers out there revved up and excited about working with me.

The project’s first EP for Australia/Asia has been released. What have been the reviews been for the 3 tracks on that EP?
They’ve been great! It’s awesome to get so many positive reactions and luckily the tracks also do well on the dance floor!

Any specific elements that you seek when you shortlist the tracks for the project?
Make something that makes your heart beat faster and gets you pumped up. I want to hear something true to whoever made it and not a take on what I might have done with it. Listening to something you might have never come up with yourself is the whole point and leads to really surprising results. Also, it really doesn’t matter if you are experienced or just starting up, I could be really impressed with a small detail and use that to finish the track, so bring it on!

Will all the regions’ EPs eventually combine to make an album?
Yes and I am trying to add some new productions or remixes too.

“Run To You,” your collaboration with Hadley from the compilation In Search of Sunrise 9 : India was one of 2011’s biggest trance records! We love every bit of it! How did you guys get together for this one?
I got in touch with her through some common friends and sent her a track I had written, which she then wrote lyrics for. We’re both really psyched about the result!

And now, the In Search of Sunrise 10 tour has just started. Where will this tour take you?
Haha, I ask the same question regularly ;) Of course there will be some places on the list that I hit last year too, but who knows, maybe I can add some new destinations to the itinerary!

Since you travel so much, what’s an essential item that you always have with you?
There are 2 things I have with me at all times, besides my CDs and headphones haha. My MacBook and iPhone.

Please share with us some of your favourite records at the moment.
Timur Adagio “Broken” (Rave Channel Remix)
Lange and Gareth Emery “This Is New York” (Heatbeat Remix)
Cosmic Gate and Arnej “Sometimes They Come Back for More” (Alex O’Rion Bigger Room Mix)
Aly & Fila “200 – FSOE 200 Anthem” (Ummet Ozcan Mix)
Orjan Nilsen “Legions” (Original Mix)

On 28th April 2012, you will be performing with Julie Thompson at Music Conference Asia 2012 here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia! Are you excited to be returning to KL, and what can fans expect from your set? And will you guys be performing “Diamonds In The Sky” live?
Of course we will, Julie is amazing! I am really looking forward to being in Kuala Lumpur again, see you there!

Germany’s Jerome Isma-Ae is widely regarded as one of the most influential and successful progressive house DJs / producers. With a career spanning over 15 years, his live shows are constantly packed and he has chalked up an impressive discogprahy of original releases and remixes. This Saturday, he takes center stage at this year’s Music Conference Asia.

Jerome Isma-Ae

Hello Jerome! Where are you currently and what’s been a recent highlight?
I’m in Brisbane, Australia and this tour has been a real highlight. Every gig was great!

How has the response been to your new release “One-77″ so far?
We expected more, but we like the track a lot!

Lots of great reactions to your remix of “Let’s Be Free” too! How long did it take you to complete this one?
Since I had the right idea straight away, it took me no longer than 2 days to finish the tune.

You’ve worked with Weekend Heroes on “Knockdown” and earlier “A Monster In My Closet.” How do you describe the working chemistry between you guys?
It’s great because we can share the work. Each of us have our own skills.

What are some of your favourite records at the moment?
Max Freegrant “Miss You” (Alex Di Stefano Remix), Jochen Miller “Brace Yourself,” and my new single which is yet to be named.

Please share with us some of your recent studio plug-ins that you enjoy using for your music.
All the Logic plugins are great (ES2, EXS, ESP) and also Nexus is great if you need a quick preset.

The last 2 years have seen a very positive growth for EDM all over the world. What are some of your favourite destinations to perform and why?
Argentina is one of my favourite places to play in the world. The people there just love music so much and they really know how to show it!

What are your plans in the pipeline for the rest of 2012?
My son will be born in June, this is the major plan for 2012. And of course there is a lot of studio work. I´m working on new sounds all the time.

And of course we anxiously await you here at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for Music Conference Asia 2012! What can expect from your set that night?
A lot of new productions, remixes and mashups!

Jerome Isma-Ae will perform at Music Conference Asia 2012 on Saturday 28th April 2012.

“One-77″ is out now on Toolroom.

It’s not often that a music act is able to balance quality releases and fun filled live performances, but the American duo of B-Rad and DJ Sabotage, better known as Manufactured Superstars, know exactly how to do both. Formed in 2005, their releases “Take Me Over,” “Drunk Text,” “Silver Splits The Blue,” “Make My Body Move,” and remixes for Bruno Mars and Afrojack have had plenty of success in airplay and sales charts. Their energetic live sets are packed with bootlegs of party and EDM anthems and solid showmanship. It is no wonder they have already toured the globe to perform at packed clubs and sold out festivals.

This Friday, Vertigo Club KL has generously invited Manufactured Superstars for their debut apperance here in the city. We caught up with the duo in advance to find out what to expect.

Manufactured Superstars

Hi guys! Very excited to hear you guys will be in town this weekend! Nice to see you guys got together with Chrstian Burns for “Silver Splits The Blue.” It’s a solid record. How did you meet Christian?
Our label introduced us to Christian. We had the beat and music done. We loved it and sent it to Christian. He wrote the lyrics and sent them over. We loved what he did so we mixed it and got some amazing remixes. Then released it to the world!

And congrats on “Take Me Over” receiving a lot of support everywhere! Tell us a bit about how this record came about.
This was the first collaboration we did across seas. Scarlett is based in England and we are based in Denver. We worked on the hook for a while, looping different sections. And we came up with something really catchy. Then Bingo Players did an amazing club mix so we had a nice radio track and club version.

“Drunk Text” was a huge hit for you guys. Any plans to work with Lea Lunar again?
We wanted to do something different more underground, with a pop culture twist. Everyone we know has sent a ‘drunk text’ to a girl or friend. We love Lea and we are working on another track now that will be out this summer.

When will your remix of Marcel Woods’ “I Can’t Sleep” be released?
Our remix is out now on Beatport! We are really happy with it.

We’ve heard so much about your live performances. Having already played major festivals and clubs all over the globe, which are some of your most memorable gigs to date?
EDC at Las Vegas was an amazing experience, playing for over 40,000 people. What a rush! We really enjoy all clubs, both big and small. Some of our favorites are XS Nightclub in Las Vegas, Beta in Denver, and Liv Night Club in Miami.

Besides those exclusive edits and mashups you guys make for your live sets, what other records have you guys been supporting?
We really like Bingo Players, Tristan Garner, Porter Robinson, Nicky Romero, Anger Dimmas, Kaskade, and of course all our new music.

What are the plans for Manufactured Superstars for the remainder of 2012?
We have a tonne of exciting shows all over the world. Really excited about Ibiza this year as we are playing in July. And lots of new music, about one track per month will be released!

And lastly, what can Kuala Lumpur expect from your set this Friday at Vertigo Club!
We will be playing some really fun party music. We will play 6 or 7 of our new tracks and a few custom remixes. We are very excited to be here and can’t wait for it!

GLENMORANGIE pres. MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS [USA] at Vertigo Club, KL on Friday, 20th April 2012. For more info go to http://tinyurl.com/MFSvertigo

We last spoke to Sander van Doorn back in 2010 when he was in town for Godskitchen Boombox. Fast forward 2 years later and his popularity has shown no signs of slowing down. A fan favourite DJ/producer with a strong following, Sander has consistently released new cutting edge records that have appealed to both the masses and the underground critics. From tracks such as “Who’s Wearing The Cap” with Laidback Luke, the massive “What Did I Do,” and the catchy “Chasin,’” it’s no wonder Sander is able to constantly differentiate himself as an evolving artiste and producer. His heavy tour schedule has him playing at packed venues around the world.

Sander returns to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this Friday for a one night only show at Zouk Club, KL.

Sander van Doorn

Hi Sander.. it’s great to be speaking with you again. What’s been a recent highlight?
I would have to say that I’m really pleased with my new single called “Chasin’” and the collab I did with Kele of Bloc Party called “What Did I Do.”

How did you get together with Laidback Luke for “Who’s Wearing The Cap?”
We’ve been talking about working together for a while, it just worked out that we were both home at the same time last year so we were able to finally get into the studio!

We absolutely love “Chasin.’” With your busy touring schedule, is it difficult to nail a musical idea down and turn it into a quality production?
Thanks! Actually, the inspiration comes a lot from being on the road. I get to see new things, meet new people and basically be in a different country every week. If you can’t get inspired by that, I guess you’d be in the wrong business!

Who wrote the lyrics for “What Did I Do?”
The vocalist Lucy Taylor.

Almost anyone can get into making dance music these days. The tools have been more acccessible than ever. As an artiste and one of the frontliners of EDM, how do you differentiate yourself from the pack?
Well, I’ve always had my own style, production techniques and way I write music. Since I am self taught, I really had to figure sound production and engineering out from a basic level. I think this is the only way to refine your sound and to create something that really is your own. I also write what I like and I think that translates to the dancefloor!

Please clue us in on any upcoming releases or remixes.
I have a new single coming on May 7th which I‘m very excited about called “Nothing Inside.” It’s done with a singer called Mayaeni and we performed it together twice in Miami (once at a secret showcase and then again at the Ultra Music Festival). Maybe I’ll even play it at Zouk?!

Sander what are your plans for 2012?
Lots of touring, studio time and travel! Maybe even a new artist album!

On 13th April you’ll be back in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia! What can your fans expect from your show at Zouk Club?
I will drop some new tracks for sure, let’s see who can tell which ones are mine!

Sander van Doorn will perform at Zouk Club, KL on Friday 13th April 2012.

“Chasin’” is out now on Doorn.

We got hold of him for this exclusive interview to gear you up on what to expect!

tyDi

Hi tyDi where are you currently answering this from?
Right now I’m on a flight half way between Los Angeles and Brisbane!

You just played at A State of Trance 550 at Kiev! How did it go?
Absolutely amazing! I performed to 12,000 people and the vibe was totally insane. There’s nothing quite like the ASOT parties, I had so much fun.

You’ve worked with singer Audrey Gallagher on “Calling,” “Worlds Apart,” and “You Walk Away.” Looks like you guys have an excellent working synergy!
Yes we really do, Audrey is a brilliant vocalist and a good friend of mine, we seem so get a long very well and our music ideas just fit together smoothly.

How long did it take to complete “Acting Crazy” and where did the idea come about?
“Acting Crazy” didn’t actually take me too long, maybe a week at the most, after that it was all in Sarah Howells hands because she wrote the topline. Once I got her vocals back I spent a few more days fine tuning it, but all up it was a pretty fast production process.

And of course we have to ask you about “Talking To Myself,” which was such a big tune! How did you get together with DJ Rap for this one?
I’ve heard of her music before and was a big fan, it was actually my friend Andrea who hooked me up with DJ Rap because she was his friend.

Your track with Meighan Nealon, “Criminal,” took quite a bit of time to complete.
Yes it did actually, I wrote that one with Protoculture who’s from South Africa and we spent a long time perfecting that one.

Besides your own work, what are some of your current favourite artists?
I’m loving what Skrillex is doing, he’s an absolute legend! Also BT has some crazy new music on the way.

Even though your album Shooting Stars has been out since last August, it’s still generating a lot of buzz. Will your collab with Jennifer Rene “Greater Heights” see a release as a single? And what was it like working with Jennifer?
It sure will! In fact “Greater Heights” comes out as a single in just one week!! There’s an insanely good remix by Tom Fall that you should check out :)

You’ve been to Malaysia quite a few times over the last few years. How do you think you have changed since your first ever visit, and what do you remember most about Malaysia?
Well as my profile has grown over the years I’ve been able to play bigger and better shows in KL. I love the people, it’s a very fun city (KL). My favourite things to do in Malaysia are visit the Batu Caves or to have a cocktail in the Sky Bar that overlooks Petronas Towers.

What are your plans for the remainder of 2012?
World domination! I’m playing everywhere around the world, I’ll also be releasing some new collaborations with BT as well as a Global Soundsystem mix compilation.

And lastly, any message for your eager fans awaiting you for Zouk @ Sepang this weekend! :)
Get ready for an incredible party! I have so many new tracks that are going to rock your world… Thanks so much to my Malaysian fans who’ve supported me all these years and I just can’t wait to see you all again! :)
